The Stunt Ranch Santa Monica Mountains Reserve is open to qualified users. Access is approved only via our RAMS online reservation system. A waiver must be signed and presented to staff in person or via email prior to arrival. All use must be consistent with University objectives of education and research. Permission to use the Reserve may be withdrawn or denied if any rules and regulations are violated. The University retains the right to add or modify the Reserve Rules at any time.
The Reserve is not open to the public for recreational uses. This includes hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, picnicking, or rock climbing. The exception is the Stunt High Trail, which runs alongside and through some portions of the Reserve and is open to the public for hiking.
We recommend that you bring the emergency instructions with you to the Reserve and review them prior to your visit. In the absence of Reserve staff, you are responsible for your own safety.
You should bring:
- Drinking water
- A hat
- Sunscreen
- A small first aid kit
- Your cell phone
The access to facilities is limited.
Note: During periods of peak fire danger, the National Weather Service calls a red flag alert. This means that a critical fire condition exists. The Reserve follows the same policy as the California Department of Parks and Recreation. When parks or back country areas are closed, the Reserve will also be closed. Should you need such information, please call the State Park Fire Weather Information Line at (805)-488-8147.
